TIPS & HELPFUL HINTS
PARKING: Whitewater ordinances allow up to three vehicles parked in front or side driveways at any time. No parking is allowed on lawns or non-approved parking surfaces (like sidewalks). Winter parking restrictions stipulate that parking is prohibited on all city streets from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM beginning on November 1st and ending on March 31st.
SIDEWALKS/LAWNS: Sidewalks must be kept free of debris, snow, and ice. If you rent, you will need to check your lease to see who is responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks. All snow and ice must be removed by 8:00 PM of each day. Grass must be kept under 7” in length.
PARTIES/NOISE: Please be respectful and, above all, safe when enjoying a party. Some basic tips to avoid creating problems with neighbors: 1) Notify your neighbors of party plans, 2) Clean up trash, and 3) Observe the law regarding noise. City ordinances prohibit disturbing others with excessive noise after 10:00 PM. The City of Whitewater also has a Chronic Nuisance Ordinance, and HSPNA has a formal complaint process. Please see Problem Resolution for more information.
TRASH, RECYCLING & BRUSH COLLECTION: John’s Disposal supplies trash, recycling, and bulk collection for our neighborhood. Trash collection is on Thursdays, recycling every other Thursday, and bulk collection is once a month (see City website www.whitewater-wi.gov for schedule). To avoid a violation and fine, garbage cans should be set out after 4:00 PM on Wednesdays and must be removed before 9:00 AM on Fridays. For more information or to arrange special trash collection call John’s Disposal at 262.473.4700. For brush collection, call 262.473.0542.
ZONING & RENTAL REGISTRATION ORDINANCES: The homes in the Historic Starin Park Neighborhood are zoned R-1 or R-2, permitting up to three unrelated non-family household members in one residence. Many of the homes in the neighborhood are also covered by the R-O Non-Family Residential Overlay, restricting the number of unrelated persons living in a single-family house to two. Whitewater also has a residential rental registration ordinance requiring registration of rental properties with the City.
